Best Nicaragua Food Recipes – Tres Leches

“Tres leches”, ( in English Three Milks) is a traditional Nicaraguan dessert. It’s origin is unknown, although it is very popular in all of Latin America. Nicaraguans typically enjoy it for birthdays and special occasions. It is a very moist cake, because it moistened with three kinds of milk (hence the name Three Milks). It is very easy to make. Here is the recipe below:

1 medium can of sweetened condensed milk
1 medium can evaporated milk
1 cup milk
2 cinnamon sticks
Whipped cream

Boil the milk with the two cinnamon sticks.

Prepare the vainilla cake mix according to the instructions on the box. Bake and let it cool for about 5 minutes. With a toothpick, poke a few holes in the cake.

In a pitcher, mix the boiled milk with the evaporated milk. Add the sweetened condensed milk and mix. Pour this mixture over the cake slowly. The cake should feel very moist. Chill for several hours.  Decorate the top of the cake with whipped cream and red maraschino cherries.   Serve and Enjoy!
