 Best of Nicaragua Nature

Day 1 - Begin the day by driving an hour and a half from Managua to the Mombacho Volcano in the morning.  Upon arriving you and your group can do the fun and exhilarating canopy tour.  The canopy tour is a zip line that takes you high above the ground, practically swinging (safely of course!) from tree to tree. After the canopy tour you can take the shuttle to the top of the volcano where there are trails to walk around the crater.  Along the trail there is a spectacular view of Lake Nicaragua, Granada and the islands.  From there you can have lunch in Granada where there are a number of great restaurants near the central park.  After lunch take a five minute drive to the edge of the lake where you can take a tour of the islands formed from the eruption of the Mombacho volcano hundreds of years ago.  After the tour of the islands you can head back to Granada and enjoy a great evening in the charming colonial city.

Day 2 – After breakfast in Granada head to San Juan del Sur (about an hour and half drive).  Upon arriving in San Juan del Sur you can get checked in to your hotel- there are many great ones right in town as well as some more secluded hotels on the ourskirts of the town. Have lunch in town and from there set out to explore the different surrounding beaches in the area.  There are an endless number of great beaches nearby, many of them with world class waves for surfing.  You can find places in town to rent surfboards if you are looking into trying out some Nicaragua surf.  Make sure to take some snacks and drinks because many of the more remote beaches do not have stores or restaurants.  After an awesome day at the beach, head back into town where you can enjoy a great meal at any of the great restaurants.

Day 3 - Enjoy an early walk on the beach before taking a 30 minute drive to the town of San Carlos, take the ferry over to the Ometepe Island.  Ometepe is the largest fresh water island in the world.  There ferry ride is about an hour long and upon arriving you can rent a car or find a guide to take you to nice hotel.  Get settled in and spend the rest of the afternoon exploring the island or hiking on one of the two volcanoes, Concepcion or Maderas.  As you hike up the volcanoes, you can see many of the pre-Columbian indigenous writings to see as well as extensive wildlife.
