Nicaragua Three Day Travel Guide

Many times those coming to Nicaragua only have a few days to get to see all that it has to offer.  Here we have designed a travel guide for those who have three full days to do as much as possible. If you have under or over three days, create your own travel guide and use this as starting draft with which to work off of.  We will also be posting travel guides for those with longer stays in Nicaragua but here is how to get the most out of Nicaragua in three days.

Day 1 – Begin the day by driving an hour and a half from Managua to the Mombacho volcano in the morning.  Upon arriving you and your group can do the fun canopy tour.  The canopy is a zip line that takes you high above the ground zip lining from tree to tree. After the canopy tour you can take the shuttle to the top of the volcano where there is trails to walk around the crater.  Along the trail there is a spectacular view of Lake Nicaragua, Granada and the islands.  From there you can have lunch in Granada where there are a number of great restaurants near the central park.  After lunch take a five minute drive to the edge of the lake where you can take a tour of the islands formed from the eruption of the Mombacho volcano hundreds of years earlier.  After the tour of the islands you can head back to Granada and enjoy a great evening in the charming colonial city.  You can spend the night any one of Granada’s great colonial style boutique hotels.

Day 2 - After breakfast in Granada head to San Juan del Sur (about an hour and half drive).  Upon arriving in San Juan del Sur you can get checked in your hotel, there are many great ones right in town as well as some more secluded hotels. Have lunch in town and from there set out to explore the different surrounding beaches in the area.  There are an endless number of great beaches nearby, many of them with world class waves for surfing.  Youcan find places in town to rent surfboards if you are looking into trying out some Nicaragua surf.  Make sure to take some snacks and drinks because many of themore remote beaches do not have stores to buy drinks and snacks.  After an awesome day at the beach head back into town where you can enjoy a great meal at any of the great restaurants in town.
