Results for Nicaragua 2011 Elections

The Nicaraguan elections were held yesterday and incumbent president Daniel Ortega looks poised for another five years of governing the country.  Current results show Ortega has over 60 percent of the vote with the closest opposition Fabio Gadea having close to 30 percent.

Current Nicaragua Election Results

Members and voters of the opposition are crying foul saying fraud occurred around the country.   Among the accusations are that Sandinista voters were able to vote multiple times and that in many of the voting precincts members of the opposition party were not able to be in the room during the vote count.  Many Nicaraguans are upset with the results wondering where Ortega is getting 60 percent of the votes when going into the election polls showed him with less than 50 percent of the vote.  His supporters are ecstatic for another five years of Sandinista power.  Daniel Ortega and the Sandinista party are able to capitalize on the support of the poor in Nicaragua something the opposition has been unable to do.

The next few days will be crucial for the country.  With many voters unhappy with the results no one is sure how they will react.  Will there be demonstrations on the street?  If so will it get violent?  Regardless Nicaragua needs your prayers for safety and guidance on moving forward in a positive manner.
