If you will be spending most of your time in Managua, you may want to stay at the Intercontinental Hotel. They have among the nicest accommodations in town. They have a great Sunday brunch in the restaurant. There are many other great large chain hotels as well as Mangua’s best boutique hotels.  If you’re looking to venture out of the hotel, the city has some great steakhouses. Los Ranchos is great restaurant with top quality service and a Churrasco steak to die for. However, that may not be your thing and you may be looking something closer to home. Close to the Intercontinental Hotel there is a wide range of American restaurant chains like TGI Fridays, Subway, McDonalds, Pizza Hut.

Check out some of Mangua’s best restaurants.

In Managua there is a variety of different things for an inbound visitor to see and do. You can go take in a show at the Ruben Dario national theatre which is located in the old center of town near Lake Managua. You can also visit Huembes, the artisan market in town if you need to buy something local to take back to family and friends. Lastly, if the roads in Managua have not given you enough of a thrill you can take a zip line across one of the lagoons in town.

Best of Nicaragua FoodIf you have the time to venture out of Managua here are a few places you must consider. First of all there is Granada which is one of the oldest cities in the entire western hemisphere. It has a colonial feel to it with great architecture all over the city. It is located at edge of Lake Nicaragua and at the foot of the Mombacho Volcano which erupted and formed over 360 little islands on the lake. The Granada Islets are a great tourist attraction. You can take a little boat tour around these islands. All these things factored in, it is a must see while you are in Nicaragua.

If you are really in for a little extra adventure, you can take a ferry across the lake to the island of Ometepe. It is the largest fresh water island in the world. On the island there are two volcanoes which are impossible to miss. You can stay at a hotel along the edge of the island and spend the day hiking one of the volcanoes and going around the island.

If the beach, sun and surfing is your thing you could spend a few days on the coastal town of San Juan del Sur. It is near this town that Survivor filmed its two seasons in Nicaragua. You can rent some surfboards in town and spend a few days going to the beaches up and down the coast. There are many lodging options in town but the best may be Pelican Eyes hotel or the Morgan’s Rock resort located a few minutes outside of town.
